Okunomatsu Sake Brewery, a venerable brewery in Tohoku, has a proud history spanning 300 years.

The Yusa family, the brewery’s founding lineage, once served as samurai to the Nihonmatsu clan of Oshu.

After their defeat in battle, they laid down their swords and began a new life as sake brewers.

In 1933, the brewery was awarded the Prize of Excellence at the National Sake Competition.
In 1935, it received the prestigious National Honor Cup.
One honor quietly followed another.

In time, people came to know the brewery by a name of their own:
“Ibei’s Brewery of Ginjo.”

In 2007, Joji Yusa became the 19th-generation head of the Yusa family.

Guided by the principle of “Tradition and Innovation,”
he continues to take on new challenges while
carrying the weight of the brewery’s 300-year history.
And so, “Joji” was born.
